Africana Studies Professor Discusses "Black Panther"

Author: Maria McKenna

The upcoming release of the new Black Panther film has many people excited.  Recently, WSBT news checked in with Africana Studies Professor, Dr. Jacquetta Page to unpack the cultural and social significance of the film.  Black Panther is the first major motion picture to feature a black director and an almost exclusively black cast.  Moreover, as a recent Time Magaizine piece noted, "Black Panther is poised to prove to Hollywood that African-American narratives have the power to generate profits from all audiences. And, more important, that making movies about black lives is part of showing that they matter."  Click on the image of Dr. Page to hear more about the significance of the film.
